Background and Identification
The Lumia series of smartphones is the result of a collaboration between Nokia and Microsoft. Starting in 2011, the companies worked together to make phones designed by Nokia that used Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system. In 2014, Microsoft purchased Nokia’s smartphone business and rebranded the Lumia line from “Nokia Lumia“ to “Microsoft Lumia.“ Under this new name, Microsoft produced the following 11 phones (shown in chronological order) before discontinuing the line in 2016:
- Microsoft Lumia 535
- Microsoft Lumia 435
- Microsoft Lumia 532
- Microsoft Lumia 640 (XL)
- Microsoft Lumia 430
- Microsoft Lumia 540
- Microsoft Lumia 950 (XL)
- Microsoft Lumia 550
- Microsoft Lumia 650
All other Lumia phones released under the Nokia name can be found on the Nokia Windows Phone category page. Some of the phones above were shipped with Windows Phone version 8.1 while others shipped with Windows 10 Mobile, but all of Microsoft’s Lumia devices can be updated to run Windows 10 Mobile. While the specifications of each phone vary (see this comparison page on Wikipedia) all Microsoft Lumia phones except the Lumia 550 were sold with the option to use dual SIM cards.
Identifying your Microsoft Lumia phone is as simple as removing the back cover and reading the label underneath the battery. This sticker includes an IMEI number which you can input into this IMEI checker website to identify your device.
