Background and Identification

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover (model GT-S5690) Android smartphone released by Samsung Electronics in August 2011. The Xcover was released as part of Samsung’s Galaxy line and was succeeded by the Xcover 2 in 2013. The Xcover was released with gray body color and features a 3.65-inch LCD (liquid-crystal display) capacitive touchscreen.

The Xcover was advertised as being dust- and water-resistant in up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes and is IP67 certified. It features a scratch-resistant display and includes a Mini-SIM slot. The phone was available with 150 MB of internal storage and 512 MB of RAM. The Xcover also includes a 3.15-megapixel main camera but does not have a selfie or front-facing camera. It contains a removable 1500 mAh battery, meaning its battery's adhesive is not permanent, making repair and replacement easier than for non-removable batteries.

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover smartphone includes the name “Samsung” printed in silver capital letters in the center of the phone’s top bezel. It features an early version of the Android three-button navigation system. The center button acts as a “home” button, the right-most button includes an arrow that identifies it as a “back” button, and the left-most button is a show-all-open-applications button with one rectangle overlapping another on the left side of the bottom bezel.
