A damaged or malfunctioning prop arm is a common issue caused by crashes or strenuous flight with your DJI Mavic Mini and will put the drone out of commission until resolved. This guide will walk you through the steps to remove and replace any prop arms you may need to fix to get your drone back in the air.

A basic knowledge of soldering is recommended before beginning this repair as several connection on the main board must be removed and re-soldered and major errors in this process could permanently impact the drone. iFixit's guide to soldering is linked here as well as later in the guide if you need to learn or refresh your skills.

    • Orient the DJI Mavic Mini so that the camera faces away.

    • Use your finger to depress the lip on the panel until the lid becomes ajar.

    • Flip the panel up to expose the battery module.

    • Depress the locking mechanism on the battery module to release the lock.

    • Pull the battery straight out of the casing.

    • Check the battery pins on the DJI Drone for corrosion or warping. If either of these conditions are present, replacing the battery module may not help resolve the issue at hand.

    • Check the pin receptacles on the battery module for blockages.

    • Insert a new battery into the casing. Ensure that all connections are clean, unobstructed, and straight.

    • Leave battery removed until the completion of this replacement.

    • Remove the top panel of the drone by prying open the seam around the device using your fingers or an iFixit opening tool.

    • Remove the two 5 mm J000 screws on the lower part of the battery compartment.

    For the rear arms, skip this step.

    • Flip the device over and use an opening tool to pry the bottom panel off.

    • Be carful not to put pressure on the gimbal (camera mount) located at the front of the drone or on the motherboard.

    • Remove the three 5mm J000 screws located on top of the main board cover.

    • Remove the main board cover panel.

    An error in the screw locations circled in step 7. The screw on the side is correct, but the two circles near the rear should be up by the camera (as I found out after scratching my head for a few moments)

    • For rear prop arms, skip this step.

    • Use the ESD Safe Tweezers to remove whichever cable is connected to the prop arm being replaced.

    • With both top and bottom panels removed, the wires can be traced from the panel to the prop arm to determine the correct wire to disconnect.

    • Try to avoid disturbing the blue thermal paste covering two of the large board components. If the paste is disturbed or splotchy in places it may need to be removed and reapplied. For more information refer to the Wie trage ich Wärmeleitpaste am besten auf guide.

    • Flip the drone over and use a soldering kit to remove the power cables from the motherboard.

    • Make certain that the solder being removed is connected to the prop arm being replaced by tracing the wire connections.

    • Orient the drone so that the props face the upside down and remove the two 3.5 mm J000 screws from the prop arm being replaced.

    • Flip the drone over and use the tweezers to apply pressure to the metal core of the prop arm pin.

    • Flip the drone back over and use fingers or tweezers to remove the prop arm pin from its socket.

    • Using a firm grip, pull the disconnected prop arm out its socket.

    • Be conscious of the four (front) or three (rear) wires attached to the arm when removing it. They are easily caught on the other interior components of the drone.
