Background and Identification

The Hyundai Santa Fe is a sport utility vehicle (SUV) produced by Hyundai since 2000. The car is named after Santa Fe, New Mexico, and was introduced for the 2001 model year as Hyundai’s first SUV. The Santa Fe was successful in the United States and quickly became Hyundai’s best-selling vehicle.

The third-generation of the Hyundai Santa Fe was released in June 2012 as a 2013 model. The third-generation Santa Fe was available in a regular and an extended (long-wheelbase) version. The regular Sport version was a five-seater vehicle while the extended version included a long wheelbase that replaced the Veracruz and was called the Santa Fe XL in Canada. The third-generation Santa Fe was sold only with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Santa Fe Sport was sold in one basic trim level with two engines and multiple packages that add features like alloy wheels, six speakers, and cloth seating surfaces. The Santa Fe was available in two trim levels, the SE (called the GLS until the 2016 model year), and the Limited.

Hyundai vehicles can be identified by the Hyundai emblem, which portrays a bold, italicized ‘H’ inside of an oval. Santa Fe vehicles include the name “Santa Fe” in capital letters without a space between the words and a depiction of a 75-degree slice of the sun.
