Troubleshooting

Diagnose any issues you may be having with your RAZR2 v9m with the Troubleshooting Guide.

Identification and Background

The Motorola RAZR2 V9m is from the RAZR2 (also known as the MOTORAZR² or Razr2) line of phones released by Motorola between the summer of 2007 and the spring of 2009. The RAZR2 is the second generation of the widely popular RAZR series. The Motorola RAZR2 V9m was released on June 29th 2007. It features: internal and external 65 bit color displays, a 2MP camera, a MicroSD slot (for cards up to 2GB), vibrating tactile feedback, and stereo Bluetooth. Although similar to the RAZR model, RAZR2 phones feature the following differences:

  • a slightly slimmer design
  • three vibrating tactile buttons on the exterior screen
  • a slightly larger exterior screen
  • a nearly flat lower half (i.e. there is no "double chin" speaker when the phone is open)

There are 4 different RAZR2 models: V8, V9m, V9, and V9x. The V9m model is the only RAZR2 model that is not carrier exclusive. As such, there are slight variations of the phone depending on which carrier sells the phone. All V9m phones will be marked V9m on an identification sticker underneath the battery. For Sprint, Verizon and Alltel phones, the V9m model can be identified by the key directly left of the navigational keypad. This key should be labeled one of the following:

  • For Sprint models, this key is the speaker key. It features a picture of a speaker.
  • For Verizon and Alltel models, this key is the camera key. It features two pictures: a camera and a camcorder.

AT&T V9m models look identical to the V9 and V9x models. They must be identified by the information sticker underneath the battery.

The RAZR2 line is the followup to Motorola's hugely successful RAZR line which sold over 50 million phones. However, the clamshell design, low resolution display, and outdated operating system looks antiquated when compared to the iPhone and other smartphones available in 2007.

The original RAZR line helped Motorola maintain second place in global cell phone sales between 2004 and 2007. However, the RAZR2 could not help maintain Motorola's momentum. As a result, Motorola fell behind Samsung and LG in the years following the release of the RAZR2. Their global sales slid to third place in 2008, fourth place in 2009, and seventh place in 2010.
