Identification and Background

The GravityLight is a gravity generated light source that involves the movement of weights to power a LED bulb. The device attaches to the ceiling with a large zip tie. The product itself weighs .8Kg and has a power output of 124 mW. Light is created by filling two bags with an unequal distribution of weight, the heavier bag is then lifted into the air and slowly turns the motor during its descent. The heavier bag should weigh 8kg to 12kg and the lighter bag should weigh .5kg to 1 kg. The bags of weights can be filled with almost any substance. Changing the height of the weights recharges the GravityLight. Martin Riddiford and Jim Reeves created the GravityLight to provide an environmentally friendly lamp for developing countries. The GravityLight should be on the commercial market in 2015.

This device model is GL01, and is a trial model. Looking at the front of the device you see the white external casing; a dark grey dial at the top; a clear LED below the dial; the dark grey mounting post on the top right; and if you turn the device, a DC socket in the back.
