Background and Identification

Lawn mowers are machines designed with one or more revolving blades to cut grass surfaces to an even height. The height of the cut grass can be adjusted according to the design of the mower. Moreover, it is adjustable by the operator, usually by a single master lever, or by a lever or nut and bolt on each side of the machine’s wheels. Manual force is generally used to power the blades, with wheels mechanically connected to the cutting blades. This allows the blades to spin as the mower is pushed forward. Or, the mower may have a battery-powered or plug-in motor.

Most commonly, lawn mowers have a small , one cylinder internal combustion engine. Other smaller mowers require human power to move over a surface. There are also “walk-behind” mowers, with which humans just walk behind the mower and guide it. Larger lawn mowers can be either self-propelled or “walk-behind” types, or most likely, the “ride-on” types, with which the person can ride the mower and control it like a vehicle. Finally, robotic lawn mowers operate entirely on their own or by a remote control.

Blades within lawn mowers are of two main styles. Lawn mowers with single blades rotating about a single vertical axis are known as rotary motors. On the other hand, lawn mowers with a cutting bar and multiple blade assembly, rotating about a single horizontal axis are known as cylinder or reel mowers. However, in some types of reel mowers, the cutting bar is the only blade, and flat metal pieces comprise the rotating assembly and force the blades of grass against the cutting bar.
