The Surface Pro 2 was released in October, 2013 and discontinued July, 2014. The Surface Pro 2 doubles as both a laptop and a tablet. The Surface Pro 2 typically comes in :blue, pink, purple, or black. The Surface Pro 2 also operates on Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. Unlike the Surface Pro, the Surface Pro 2 has a two-stage kickstand. The Surface Pro 2 has more SSD memory options than the Surface Pro as the Surface Pro 2 comes in: 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. The Surface Pro 2 also boasts fourth generation Intel-Core i5-4200u processor with Intel-HD 4400 Graphics.

In February of 2016, Microsoft had to recall Surface Pro 2 power adapters because they had the potential to catch fire or cause electric shock.
