Background and Identification
Capitalizing on the success of the first Rift, the Rift DK2 incorporates several improvements over the original. Chiefly among them is the addition of a positional tracking camera that aids in accurately mapping head movement. The display has also been updated to a low-persistence HD Super AMOLED display, which is designed to combat the "screen door" effect that plagued the original Rift. To further enhance immersion, Oculus VR has also included a built-in latency tester that measures motion-to-photon latency.
Released July of 2014, the Oculus Rift DK2 has achieved tremendous success. The device allows you to tailor your virtual experience to meet your visual needs by providing three different lenses for users to interchange.
