Background and Identification

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 4th Gen, released in 2016, is the 4th generation of the X1 Carbon series. Compared to the last three generations, the X1 Carbon 4th Gen does not have touchscreen capabilities. However, what makes this generation stand out from its predecessors is the fingerprint press scanner in the bottom right corner and a lighter frame, making it half a pound lighter. When this model was released, it ranged from $1,142.10 - $1,533.60. It was advertised as being an excellent “business” laptop because of its sleek design, spill resistant keyboard, and extended battery life, which won it a PC Editor’s Choice award. This generation of X1 Carbon was soon surpassed by the 5th generation in 2017 with new specs, including a change from the old rectangular charge port to a more supported USB-C connection.
