Troubleshooting
Track down solutions to a number of common microphone problems using the Shure SM58 Troubleshooting Guide.
Identification and Background
You can verify that your device is the Shure SM58 by looking directly under the microphone windscreen (the steel spherical grill at the top of the microphone).
Shure Incorporated has produced a variety of vocal microphones including models such as SM27, SM48, SM58, SM63, SM86, and SM87. Produced since 1966 the Shure SM58 sets the standard of sound for vocal microphones. It has a frequency response of 50 to 15,000 Hz. The uniform cardioid pattern on the microphone allows it to take in the main source of sound while minimizing background noise. On the other hand, the microphone windscreen allows the microphone to filter out any wind or 'pop' noises.
The SM58 is also described as ruggedly durable. It has a proven shock mount system and a steel mesh grille, which ensures that even with rough handling the microphone will perform consistantly.
