Die Tourenwagen-Weltmeisterschaft 2009 begann am 8. März in Curitiba (Brasilien) und endete am 22. November in Macau. Titelverteidiger war zum ersten Mal der Franzose Yvan Muller, in der Markenwertung war es Seat. Beim Finale in Macao sicherte sich der Italiener Gabriele Tarquini den Fahrertitel, Seat konnte den Markentitel erfolgreich verteidigen. Den Fahrertitel bei den Privatiers gewann der Niederländer Tom Coronel, sein Sunred-Team gewann die Teamwertung.
